Slope at Math Glossary

What is it? Slope is the measure of the steepness or incline of a line drawn on a rectangular-coordinate-system graph. It may also be described as the ratio of vertical change to horizontal change.Example: If point P is (x1,y1) and point Q is (x2,y2) the slope of PQ isdelta y/delta x = y2 -y1 / x2-x1. You may also hear about rise over run (rise / run).

Math Terms Coefficient of determination is A measure of how much the variability of one given variable depends on its relationship with another given variable. It is calculated by squaring the value of the linear correlation, r. For example, in a linear model, a correlation of 0.80 (r = 0.80) would mean that r, the coefficient of determination, would equal 0.64. Therefore, 64% of the variability in the Y values could be predicted based on the relationship with the X values.
