Categorical Data at Math Glossary
What is it? Consists of data that can be grouped by specific categories (also known as qualitative variables). Categorical variables may have categories that are naturally ordered (ordinal variables) or have no natural order (nominal variables). For example, the variable height is ordinal because it contains the categories short, average and tall which are naturally ordered according to ascending height. On the other hand, variables such as sex and hair colour, which have no natural category order, are examples of nominal variables.Mathematical Term Added By: Destiny
