What is it? The expanded form of an algebraic expression is the equivalent expression without parentheses. For example, the expanded form of ( a + b )2 is a2 + 2ab + b2 . A way to write numbers that shows the place value of each digit. 263 = 200 + 60 + 3 or 263 is 2 hundreds, 60 tens, and 3 ones.
